Staines-based Karate
Welcome to UK Karate Staines! With a rich history of cultivating confidence, discipline, and self-defence skills, our club is not just about learning martial arts; it's about becoming a part of a supportive community. I have dedicated my passion to teaching karate in Staines, where individuals of all ages can explore their potential and enjoy the journey of self-improvement.
The club has been in existence since 2000 and we teach Wado Ryu, the style of karate devised by Hironori Otsuka during the 1930s. This is one of the most practised forms of karate worldwide. Our syllabus caters to both beginners and experienced martial artists, ensuring everyone finds their place here. I believe in the transformative power of karate, instilling values such as respect, perseverance and confidence as well as developing self-control and self-discipline in every student.
At UK Karate Staines, we take pride in offering a safe and engaging environment where students can learn and grow together. We work diligently to ensure that our lessons are not only effective but also enjoyable. Each class is designed to challenge our students while building their confidence and physical fitness. I strive to inspire my students to reach their personal goals, whether they aim for fitness or simply the joy of learning a new skill. Senior Instructor
Mark Solesbury, 2nd Dan
Mark started training in 1983 in the Shotokan style of karate and continued until he joined the forces in 1986.
Once in the forces he then trained in Modern contact karate.
After leaving the forces in 2002 he joined the police and started training at Staines in Wado Kai under the instruction of John Halsey.
At the beginning of 2008 he took over running the club when the senior instructor moved away and has built the club up steadily.
After leaving the police he joined a company in the medical transport business and is trained to the standard of FPOS (First Person on Scene, just below a paramedic).
So with his previous roles he is able to provide both a legal standing on the use of what is taught and medical advice should minor injury occur during training.
He is now an Accredited Driving Instructor so has the patience to teach just about everyone.

Claire joined the club in July 2011.
She had trained with Sensei Mark from the beginning and her hard work and dedication to her training since
she started has resulted in her rising through the
belts until attaining the rank of !st Dan in March 2020.
She has become a good all round martial artist and a great Instructor who the kids love to train with.

This Karate class is great. Both my children have attended over the past couple of years and really enjoyed. As well as the enjoyment and self defence have definitely seen development in other areas also. Core strength, discipline, listening and confidence.
